Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To identify pre- and peroperative risk factors associated with developing an inflammatory response after extracapsular cataract extraction with posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) implantation.

Main Methods:

  • A logistic regression model was used to analyze 10 pre- and 10 peroperative variables in 1154 cataract surgery cases.
  • Inflammatory response was defined as increased cellular flare and/or fibrinous reaction over a 4-month follow-up.

  • An inflammatory response occurred in 5.5% of cases (63 eyes).
