  • Cell Biology
  • Developmental Biology

Background:

  • Neuron-glial interactions are crucial in the central nervous system.
  • Existing methods limit the study of complex cell population interactions.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop a versatile system for studying neuron-glial interactions mediated by diffusible molecules.
  • To investigate the protective role of astrocytes against glutamate excitotoxicity.

Main Methods:

  • Culturing enriched neuron and glial cell populations on separate coverslips.
  • Utilizing a modular system allowing independent manipulation and co-culture of cell populations.
  • Assessing neuronal survival under excitotoxic conditions.
