[Health policy in the Czech Republic]

Based on an analysis of the development of the health status of the population of different European countries during the last 30 years of the authors demonstrate the dominant determining role of the character of the social system for this development. In conjunction with actual situation and the transformation of the entire society the authors outline basic socioeconomic prerequisites for the creation of a positive health policy of the Czech Republic. Objectives and the main strategic steps for their implementation are outlined.
