Color flow imaging of the head and neck region

Color flow imaging (CFI) is a recent advance in sonography that allows simultaneous two-dimensional structural imaging and evaluation of blood flow in a noninvasive manner. The technical background and the main application in the head and neck region such as evaluation of flow through the main arteries and veins of the neck, detection of vascular disorders of the orbit and the role of CFI of neoplastic disease are reviewed. It is concluded that CFI is an important extension of the sonographic examination of the head and neck region.
