Area of Science:

  • Otolaryngology
  • Surgical Techniques
  • Regenerative Medicine

Context:

  • Tympanic membrane perforations are common ear conditions.
  • Traditional myringoplasty can involve significant recovery times.
  • Need for minimally invasive and effective repair options.

Purpose:

  • To describe and evaluate an ambulant myringoplasty technique.
  • To assess the efficacy of lyophilized dura mater and perichondrium grafts.
  • To determine long-term otoscopic and audiological outcomes.

Summary:

  • A novel ambulant myringoplasty procedure was developed for tympanic perforations up to one quadrant.
  • Lyophilized dura mater and perichondrium were utilized as graft materials.
  • Sixty-one patients underwent the procedure with follow-up at two years.

Impact:

  • The technique offers a viable, minimally invasive alternative for tympanic perforation repair.
  • Successful outcomes support its use in clinical practice.
  • Provides gratifying otological and audiological results for patients.
