Abstract:
Some of the events that have contributed to the development of the present Swedish health care system are reviewed. Although there are several useful elements in system--and these are the ones usually presented by official channels--the impact on the freedom of the medical profession and on the patient-physician relationship is considerable and destructive to the concepts of a free profession. It is necessary to take such effects into account in the planning for nationalized health services anywhere in the world.
