Areolar sebaceous hyperplasia: a case report

Background:

Sebaceous gland hyperplasia (SGH) is a common benign condition of the sebaceous glands.
Typically, SGH presents on the face and trunk.
Lesions on the mammary areolae are exceptionally rare.

Observation:

A unique case of sebaceous gland hyperplasia exclusively affecting the mammary areolae is presented.
This specific presentation is highly unusual, with limited prior documentation in medical literature.
The clinical and histological features of the presented case are described.

Findings:

A review of existing literature identified only two previously reported cases of SGH in this distinct anatomical location.
The rarity of areolar SGH suggests a potential unique etiology or predisposition.
Further investigation into the pathogenesis of SGH in this specific site is warranted.

Implications:

This case contributes to the understanding of the anatomical distribution of sebaceous gland hyperplasia.
The findings may prompt clinicians to consider SGH in the differential diagnosis of areolar lesions.
Further research into the origin and potential triggers of SGH in the mammary areolae is recommended.
