Area of Science:

  • Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Hematology
  • Maternal Health

Background:

  • Thromboembolism represents a critical risk factor for maternal mortality globally.
  • Existing management strategies require continuous updates based on scientific advancements.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To summarize recent advancements in the clinical management of thromboembolism in pregnant individuals.
  • To highlight key developments influencing thromboprophylaxis and treatment.

Main Methods:

  • Review of recent literature on thromboembolism in pregnancy.
  • Analysis of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
  • Synthesis of updated clinical guidelines and evidence.

Main Results:

  • Identification of novel inherited thrombophilia conditions.
  • Enhanced understanding of evidence-based indications for thromboprophylaxis.
  • Shift towards increased utilization of low-molecular-weight heparin over unfractionated heparin.

Conclusions:

  • Contemporary management of pregnancy-related thromboembolism benefits from advances in understanding inherited thrombophilias.
  • Updated prophylaxis indications and preferential use of low-molecular-weight heparin contribute to improved maternal safety.
