An extraosseous aneurysmal bone cyst, a rare soft tissue lesion, was surgically removed from a 73-year-old man's hip. The patient recovered well, with the lesion showing no recurrence one year post-operation.

Area of Science:

  • Orthopedics
  • Pathology
  • Surgical Oncology

Background:

  • Extraosseous aneurysmal bone cysts (EA সন্তানদেরBCs) are rare, benign, expansile bone lesions.
  • These lesions typically occur in the extremities, with intraosseous occurrence being more common.
  • Soft tissue EA সন্তানদেরBCs are exceptionally uncommon, posing diagnostic challenges.

Observation:

  • A 73-year-old male presented with a large cystic lesion in the soft tissues of the left hip.
  • The lesion was surgically excised.
  • Post-operative follow-up at 1 year showed the patient remained well.

Findings:

  • Histological examination revealed a lesion identical to an aneurysmal bone cyst.
  • The diagnosis of extraosseous aneurysmal bone cyst was established.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Differential diagnoses included other cystic soft tissue masses.
  • Implications:

    • This case highlights the occurrence of EAOBs in unusual locations.
    • Accurate diagnosis requires careful histological evaluation and consideration of differential diagnoses.
    • Surgical excision appears to be an effective treatment modality for EAOBs.
