Background:

  • The genetic factors influencing human longevity are not fully understood.
  • Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genes play a critical role in immune response and have been implicated in various age-related conditions.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between specific HLA-A, HLA-B, and HLA-DR antigens and longevity in an elderly population.
  • To identify potential genetic markers linked to exceptional lifespan.

Main Methods:

  • Typing of HLA-A, HLA-B, and HLA-DR antigens in 171 healthy elderly subjects (75-104 years) and 405 healthy younger controls (18-65 years).
  • Statistical analysis to compare antigen and haplotype frequencies between the elderly and control groups.
