Summary

Modifying amalgam surfaces with Adlloy (a gallium-tin liquid alloy) enhanced the bond strength of orthodontic brackets when using the C&B Metabond adhesive system. However, Adlloy did not improve bonding with the Concise resin system.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the effect of Adlloy (gallium-tin liquid alloy) surface modification on the bond strength of orthodontic brackets bonded to amalgam.
  • To compare the performance of two resin systems (Concise and C&B Metabond) with and without Adlloy treatment.

Main Methods:

  • Class V amalgam restorations were treated with sandblasting or sandblasting plus Adlloy.
  • Orthodontic brackets were bonded using Concise composite resin or C&B Metabond adhesive.
