The consequences of a generic approach to teaching nursing in a multicultural world
1San Jose State University, CA 95192-0057, USA.
Abstract:
This paper describes the Generic approach to teaching identified in a qualitative study that investigated the processes by which nurse educators teach ethnically diverse nursing students. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with faculty and ethnic nurses. The study's findings are derived from refining the categories and themes and ongoing theory development. The conditions, actions, and consequences involved in the Generic approach to teaching are described and examples that emerged from the data are presented as illustrations. Examination of the consequences of the Generic teaching approach may assist educators to analyze their own approach to teaching ethnically diverse students.
