[Meniscal injuries in the aged patient]

Abstract:
The author analyses clinical and radiographic aspects of 46 patients with meniscal injuries, with age over 60 years, and submitted to arthroscopic procedures for treatment. The relations of the clinical and arthroscopic findings with the surgical results were evaluated. The night pain complain, joint swelling, the knee flexion deformity were the most frequent clinical findings. The fact of being female, having injuries of lateral meniscus, narrowing of the joint space at the X-ray were bad prognosis signs. The medial femural condile osteonecrosis was the main cause of bad result in patients with medial meniscus injuries.
