Advances in the knowledge of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease pathophysiology have introduced chantes in the treatment of this disease, that have been presented in several guidelines published at a national or supranational level. In this paper some of these changes are analysed, together with significant aspects of these guidelines and items that remain unclear.
