Background:

  • Congenital poikiloderma, specifically Dowling-Degos disease, presents a heterogeneous clinical picture.
  • Patients with this condition have an elevated risk of developing skin malignancies, including squamous cell carcinoma.
  • Hypertriglyceridemia (Frederickson type IV) can complicate treatment choices.

Observation:

  • A male patient with congenital poikiloderma developed Bowen's disease and early squamous cell carcinoma.
  • The patient had co-existing hypertriglyceridemia, precluding long-term retinoid therapy for tumor prophylaxis.
  • Hyperkeratotic plaques were treated using dermabrasion.

Findings:

  • After six months of dermabrasion, complete healing was observed in several hyperkeratotic plaques.
