    Background:

    • Transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) and strokes are typically associated with arteriosclerosis, particularly in older individuals.
    • Understanding the etiology of TIAs and strokes in younger populations is crucial for effective diagnosis and treatment.

    Observation:

    • Twelve patients under 50 with recurrent TIAs and strokes were identified.
    • These patients lacked typical risk factors such as arteriosclerotic cerebral vascular disease, hypertension, and oral contraceptive use.
    • All patients presented with a prolapsing mitral valve, confirmed via angiocardiography.

    Findings:

    • The average age of patients with TIAs and prolapsing mitral valve was 38 years, significantly younger than the 62 years seen in arteriosclerosis-related TIA cases.
