Summary

The copper intrauterine device (Cu-IUD) may limit pelvic inflammatory disease by increasing reactive oxygen intermediates (ROI) and decreasing reactive nitrogen intermediates (RNI). This suggests a novel antimicrobial mechanism for Cu-IUDs.
