Abstract:
A new case of pneumonia and empyema by Pasteurella multocida diagnosed by culture of pleural fluid is reported. It is also reviewed the most common ways of infection, the characteristics of the rare pulmonary diseases, the risks factors and the treatment.
Insights
A rare case of pneumonia and empyema caused by Pasteurella multocida was diagnosed via pleural fluid culture. This report reviews infection routes, disease characteristics, risk factors, and treatment for this uncommon pulmonary condition.
Area of Science:
- Medicine
- Infectious Diseases
- Pulmonology
Background:
- Pasteurella multocida is an uncommon cause of pulmonary infections.
- Pneumonia and empyema represent serious respiratory tract infections.
Observation:
- A novel case of pneumonia and empyema caused by Pasteurella multocida was identified.
- Diagnosis was confirmed through the culture of pleural fluid.
Findings:
- The study reviews common infection pathways for Pasteurella multocida.
- Characteristics of rare pulmonary diseases associated with this pathogen are detailed.
- Risk factors contributing to infection and available treatment options are discussed.
Implications:
- This case highlights the importance of considering Pasteurella multocida in pulmonary infections, especially in specific risk groups.
- Understanding infection routes and risk factors can improve early diagnosis and management of rare pulmonary diseases.
- Reviewing treatment strategies aids clinicians in managing Pasteurella multocida-induced pneumonia and empyema effectively.
