[Immunohistochemical study of Cath-D and CD44 in laryngeal squamous cell carcinomas]

The expression of Cath-D and CD44 was examined immunohistochemically in 96 laryngeal squamous cell carcinomas and compared with clinic pathological feature. Expression of Cath-D and CD44 was detected in 52.1% and 41.7% respectively. The correlation was observed between Cath-D expression and metastasis (including lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis), but Cath-D expression was not associated with lymph node metastasis. Expression of CD44 was not associated with lymph node metastasis also. In addition, expression of Cath-D and CD44 did not correlated with clinical stage, histologic grade, size of tumor and postoperative 3 years survival rates. Our results indicate that Cath-D may play a role in metastasis.
