[Relationship between p53 gene expression and radiation effect in laryngeal carcinoma]

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the biologic character of laryngeal carcinoma and the effects of radiation therapy. Using monoclonal antibody for p53 gene protein, 73 cases of laryngeal carcinoma were stained by the immunohistochemical DACO CSA System method. Results of the stain can be divided into intense, moderate and negative expression. There is a significant relationship between the gene expression and radiation effect. We found that samples which had higher level of staining due to increased gene expression, were affected more by the radiation therapy. The p53 gene expression can be useful in predicting the outcome of laryngeal carcinoma and be helpful in clinical therapy.
