Summary

Pediatric Burkitt's lymphoma can rarely present as obstructive liver disease. Early diagnosis and chemotherapy led to jaundice resolution in a 12-year-old boy.

Background:

  • Burkitt's lymphoma is an aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma common in children.
  • Hepatic involvement in Burkitt's lymphoma is uncommon, and presentation as primary obstructive jaundice is rare.

Observation:

  • A 12-year-old boy presented with a 5-month history of jaundice, abdominal swelling, and weight loss.
  • Physical examination revealed marked jaundice and hepatomegaly in a wasted child.
  • Liver function tests and ultrasound indicated obstructive liver disease.

Findings:

  • Laparotomy with tissue biopsy confirmed Burkitt's lymphoma.
  • The patient received two courses of cytotoxic chemotherapy.
  • Post-chemotherapy, jaundice resolved, and the patient's condition improved.
