Investigating the effectiveness of self-learning packages in staff development

The nursing shortage and high patient acuity levels make it difficult for nurses to attend traditional inservice programs. Time and financial constraints affect the staff educator's ability to teach needed topics to large numbers of nursing staff. This study suggests that the use of self-learning packages can be a viable alternative or adjunct to traditional inservice programs for nursing staff development.
