From classroom to community: highlights of a service learning project

Abstract:
This article provides a brief history of service learning, followed by highlights from the implementation of a service learning project in a university's health care administration program. The service aim of the program was to prevent substance abuse among youth. Nineteen students, three community agencies, and fifty-three youngsters participated in the project. The project, funded by a mini-grant from Albany State University, provides an overview of course objectives / service activities, results of the project, benefits of the project, as well as a summary.
