In some cases, the illnesses are easily recognised, although in others a well trained specialist is necessary to reach the diagnosis. Within the numerous works of art that have attracted medical interest, there is none comparable to the most famous and enigmatic portrait painted by Leonardo da Vinci, the Mona Lisa.
