[Simultaneous bilateral renal pelvic tumors: a case report].

Background:

• Simultaneous bilateral urothelial tumors of the upper urinary tract are rare.

• A 64-year-old male presented with gross hematuria and left flank pain.
• Clinical investigations identified tumors in the right renal pelvis/ureter and left renal pelvis.
• The right-sided tumor demonstrated invasion into the bladder.

Findings:

• Pathological examination revealed non-papillary transitional cell carcinoma (grade 3, pT4) on the right and papillary transitional cell carcinoma (grade 2, pT1) on the left.
• Surgical intervention included right nephroureterectomy, total cystectomy, left partial pyelectomy, and ureterocutaneostomy.
• This represents the 16th reported case of simultaneous bilateral upper tract urothelial tumors in Japan.

Implications:

• This case highlights the importance of thorough investigation in patients presenting with upper urinary tract symptoms.
• The distinct pathological characteristics of bilateral tumors underscore the need for individualized treatment strategies.
