The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) may offer a snapshot of movement quality but struggles to reliably measure training effectiveness. Further research is needed to refine FMS implementation and scoring for accurate results.

Background:

  • The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is utilized for injury prediction and exercise prescription.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine if the FMS can effectively evaluate the impact of a 12-week training program on movement quality in firefighters.
  • To compare the efficacy of different FMS scoring methods in detecting changes post-training.

  • Sixty firefighters were divided into two intervention groups and one control group.
  • Intervention groups underwent 12 weeks of training with varying emphasis on movement quality.
  • FMS scores were assessed pre- and post-training using standard (0-3 scale) and two 100-point scales.

  • No significant differences in total FMS scores were observed across groups post-training.
