Abstract:
Gammahydroxybutyrate (GHB) is also known as fantasy or liquid ecstasy. Its use as a recreational drug has been illegal in Denmark since 1999. However, the GHB pro-drug gammabutyrolactone (GBL) is available to everybody since it is the main ingredient in rim cleaners, which are often sold via the Internet. We describe two cases with patients, who were admitted to the intensive care unit at Glostrup Hospital within a six-month period. The symptoms of GHB intoxication are described, and the treatment is discussed.
