Abstract:
Outside of pregnancy, automatic insulin pump systems improve glucose control and quality of life. More women with type 1 diabetes become pregnant while using these systems. Strict glucose control and appropriate gestational weight gain reduce the risk of adverse outcomes, such as fetal overgrowth. This review highlights that pregnant women using automatic insulin pumps achieve glucose levels closer to target with low hypoglycemia prevalence and similar gestational weight gain. Fetal overgrowth is at least as prevalent with automatic insulin pumps as with insulin pens or manual insulin pumps.
