Background:

  • Central serous choroidopathy (CSC) is a condition affecting vision.
  • Understanding vitreoretinal adherence is crucial for retinal health.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate vitreoretinal adherence patterns in CSC using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT).
  • To compare these patterns between chronic CSC, non-chronic CSC, and healthy control subjects.

Main Methods:

  • A retrospective case-control study analyzed 104 eyes from 52 CSC patients and matched control groups.
  • Five vitreoretinal adherence patterns were defined: lacunae, partial posterior vitreous detachment (partial-PVD), epiretinal membrane (ERM), focal vitreomacular adherence (VMA), and no pattern.
  • Statistical analysis, including odds ratios (OR) and confidence intervals (CI), was performed.

Main Results:

  • Recognizable vitreoretinal interface patterns were significantly more frequent in both non-chronic CSC (OR=6.51) and chronic CSC (OR=4.05) compared to normal subjects.
  • The findings were statistically significant (p=0.0001 and p=0.001, respectively).

Conclusions:

  • Vitreoretinal adherence patterns in CSC vary with age and differ from normal eyes.
  • Early, bilateral changes in the vitreoretinal interface are indicated in CSC patients under 40.
