Background:

  • The transformation zone sampling rate (TZSR) is a key indicator of cervical cytology specimen quality.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate individual cervical cytology practitioner performance using TZSR.
  • To assess the effectiveness of targeted, on-site training for practitioners with low TZSRs.

  • Calculated TZSR for practitioners submitting liquid-based cytology (LBC) specimens over a 23-month period.
  • Identified practitioners below the 10th percentile of TZSR after excluding those with fewer than 30 samples.

Conclusions:

  • Identifying and addressing low TZSRs is crucial for optimizing sample adequacy and potentially improving cytological abnormality detection rates.
