Lower circulating irisin is associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Circulating irisin levels are lower in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Irisin correlates with metabolic factors in non-diabetics but not in T2DM patients, suggesting a disrupted relationship in diabetes.
