Summary
Two patients presented with iris lesions and were diagnosed with iris stroma sector hemangioma alongside diffuse choroidal hemangioma. These cases did not exhibit other Sturge-Weber syndrome symptoms.
Area of Science:
- Ophthalmology
- Vascular Anomalies
- Ocular Oncology
Background:
- Iris lesions can present with various underlying pathologies.
- Choroidal hemangiomas are vascular tumors of the choroid layer.
- Sturge-Weber syndrome is a rare neurological disorder associated with facial and leptomeningeal angiomas.
Observation:
- Two patients were referred for evaluation of iris lesions.
- Ophthalmic examination revealed sector hemangioma of the iris stroma.
- The iris lesions were found in contiguity with diffuse choroidal hemangioma.
Findings:
- Diagnosis of co-existing iris stroma sector hemangioma and diffuse choroidal hemangioma in both patients.
- Absence of other clinical manifestations typically associated with Sturge-Weber syndrome in these cases.
Implications:
- Highlights the importance of thorough ophthalmic examination for iris lesions.
- Suggests that iris and choroidal hemangiomas can occur independently of Sturge-Weber syndrome.
- Contributes to the understanding of vascular anomalies in the eye.

Glaucoma: Overview
1.7K
Glaucoma is an eye condition characterized by increased intraocular pressure that damages the retina and optic nerve, leading to irreversible blindness if left untreated. The human eye has various components, including the cornea, iris, pupil, lens, and optic nerve. Aqueous humor is secreted by the epithelium of the ciliary body in the posterior chamber and flows through the trabecular meshwork and canal of Schlemm, maintaining normal intraocular pressure. The trabecular meshwork and the canal...

Angle Closure Glaucoma: Treatment
1.7K
Angle-closure glaucoma, or closed-angle glaucoma, is an eye condition where the iris bulges out and blocks the iridocorneal angle, resulting in a buildup of aqueous humor and increased intraocular pressure. Immediate medical attention is necessary due to the sudden onset of symptoms. The treatment for angle-closure glaucoma includes short-term and long-term approaches. Short-term treatment involves using eye drops like pilocarpine to lower intraocular pressure by increasing aqueous humor...
