Frequency effects in monolingual and bilingual natural reading

Bilinguals show a larger frequency effect (FE) in their second language (L2) than their first (L1). This reading behavior is explained by an integrated mental lexicon, where language exposure, not proficiency, determines lexical entrenchment.
