A new cyclohexene compound from Lasiodiplodia theobromae fungus shows potato micro-tuber-inducing activity. This novel compound is less potent than theobroxide, requiring a higher concentration for similar effects.
Area of Science:
- Natural Product Chemistry
- Mycology
- Plant Physiology
Background:
- Theobroxide is a known compound with potato micro-tuber-inducing activity.
- Fungal metabolites are a rich source of bioactive compounds.
Purpose of the Study:
- To isolate and characterize novel compounds from Lasiodiplodia theobromae.
- To investigate the potato micro-tuber-inducing activity of isolated compounds.
Main Methods:
- Isolation of a novel cyclohexene compound (1) from fungal culture filtrate.
- Structural elucidation of compound (1).
- Bioassay for potato micro-tuber-inducing activity.
Main Results:
- A novel cyclohexene compound (1) was isolated and identified.
- Compound (1) exhibited potato micro-tuber-inducing activity at 10(-3) M.
- Theobroxide (2) showed activity at a lower concentration of 10(-5) M.
Conclusions:
- Lasiodiplodia theobromae produces novel bioactive cyclohexene derivatives.
- Compound (1) possesses potato micro-tuber-inducing properties, albeit with lower potency than theobroxide.
