Community Based Intervention01:30

Community Based Intervention

547
Community-based interventions in mental health represent a paradigm shift from institution-centered care to treatments embedded within the fabric of local communities. By prioritizing inclusion and leveraging existing societal structures, this approach fosters a supportive environment conducive to addressing mental health challenges while promoting individual dignity and agency.

Longitudinal Research

13.6K
Sometimes we want to see how people change over time, as in studies of human development and lifespan. When we test the same group of individuals repeatedly over an extended period of time, we are conducting longitudinal research. Longitudinal research is a research design in which data-gathering is administered repeatedly over an extended period of time. For example, we may survey a group of individuals about their dietary habits at age 20, retest them a decade later at age 30, and then again...

Guidelines for Writing Outcome

4.2K
When developing expected outcomes for a patient care plan, the nurse should adhere to the following recommendations:
Patient outcomes reflect the patient's response to the goal rather than what the nurse aims to achieve. Terminology should be observable and measurable to avoid the reader's interpretation. The desired outcome should be realistic and achievable in the designated care timeframe. Expected outcomes should align with adjunctive therapies. The outcome should enhance care...

Summary

This study shows that a regional evidence-based practice (EBP) fellowship program leads to sustained improvements in EBP adoption and beliefs six months post-program. Strong EBP beliefs predict successful implementation in hospital units.

Area of Science:

  • Healthcare Quality Improvement
  • Nursing Education
  • Evidence-Based Practice Implementation

Background:

  • The immediate benefits of regional evidence-based practice (EBP) programs are established.
  • However, the medium-term impact and sustainability of these programs remain less understood.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the 6-month follow-up outcomes of a regional EBP fellowship program.
  • To identify predictors of EBP adoption within hospital units post-fellowship.

Main Methods:

  • A matched pretest/posttest design was employed.
  • Data were collected via mailed questionnaires 6 months after program completion.
  • The study included 3 annual cohorts participating in a 9-month EBP fellowship.

Main Results:

  • Significant improvements were observed in EBP beliefs, implementation, and group cohesion (P < .05).
  • Over 75% of participants who completed EBP projects reported adoption in their hospital units.
  • Stronger EBP beliefs positively predicted EBP adoption (OR, 1.12; 95% CI, 1.02-1.22; P = .017).

Conclusions:

  • Positive outcomes from the EBP fellowship program were sustained 6 months post-completion.
  • Participant EBP beliefs are a significant predictor of successful EBP adoption at the unit level.
