Isolated Right Ventricular Apical Trabecular Hypoplasia: A Case Report.

Background:

• Right ventricular (RV) hypoplasia, characterized by isolated myocardial disease and absent RV trabeculae, is a rare congenital heart defect.
• Current treatments for RV hypoplasia are often ineffective, particularly in adult patients.

Observation:

• A middle-aged female patient presented with RV hypoplasia, complicated by tricuspid regurgitation, right atrial thrombus, and atrial fibrillation.
• The patient had a complete absence of right ventricular trabeculae.

Findings:

• The patient underwent a successful one-and-a-half ventricular repair.
• Post-surgery, significant improvements in cardiac function and physical activity tolerance were observed.

Implications:

• The one-and-a-half ventricular repair approach shows potential for improving the prognosis of adult patients with isolated RV hypoplasia.
• This case highlights a viable surgical strategy for a previously challenging congenital heart condition.
