A new Lissajous scanning method corrects eye motion artifacts in optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) images. This technique produces accurate, motion-free en face OCT-A images of the posterior eye segment in vivo.
Area of Science:
- Ophthalmology
- Biomedical Imaging
- Optical Coherence Tomography
Background:
- Eye motion artifacts degrade the quality of en face optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) images.
- Accurate imaging of the posterior segment is crucial for diagnosing and monitoring ocular diseases.
Purpose of the Study:
- To develop and validate a novel method for correcting eye motion artifacts in en face OCT-A images.
- To enable high-quality, artifact-free in vivo imaging of the posterior eye segment.
Main Methods:
- Modification of the standard Lissajous scanning pattern for OCT-A compatibility.
- Development of a corresponding software-based motion correction algorithm.
- Validation through comparison with uncorrected images, scanning laser ophthalmoscopy, and repeatability tests.
Main Results:
- The proposed method effectively corrects eye motion artifacts in en face OCT-A images.
- Motion-corrected images show improved accuracy and clarity compared to uncorrected images.
- The technique demonstrates robustness, including handling of eye blinking.
Conclusions:
- The modified Lissajous scanning method with software correction successfully eliminates eye motion artifacts in en face OCT-A.
- This approach provides accurate, motion-free in vivo imaging of the posterior eye segment.
- The method holds significant potential for enhanced ophthalmic diagnostics and research.

Absolute Motion Analysis- General Plane Motion
As the drone's propellers rotate, an upward force is generated that counteracts the force of gravity, enabling the drone to lift off from the ground. This initial movement of the drone is along a straight path, representing a form of translational motion. In this phase, every point on the...
