Clinical simulation in nursing education offers a safe space for students to practice skills. This article presents three cost-effective methods for faculty to objectively evaluate student performance during simulations.
Area of Science:
- Nursing Education
- Medical Simulation
Background:
- Clinical simulation is a valuable tool in nursing education for skill development.
- Evaluating student assessments fosters faculty collaboration.
Purpose of the Study:
- To present three cost-effective strategies for objectively capturing clinical snapshots in nursing education.
- To enhance the evaluation of student performance in simulated clinical environments.
Main Methods:
- Faculty develop custom clinical scenarios.
- Assessment forms are created using standard word processing software.
- Bar scanning technology with quick response (QR) code readers is utilized for efficient data capture.
Main Results:
- The described methods provide an objective and cost-effective approach to clinical assessment.
- Implementation at one university demonstrated feasibility.
Conclusions:
- Custom scenarios, Word-based forms, and QR code scanning offer a practical framework for clinical simulation assessment in nursing.
- These strategies can improve the objectivity and efficiency of evaluating student competencies.
