Emergencies in acid-peptic disease

Perforation and hemorrhage are the major complications of peptic ulcer disease today. The significance of these two conditions is underscored by the more than 5000 deaths that resulted from these complications in the United States in 1979. A consideration of these two complications forms the basis of the present discussion.
