Guidelines and Strategies for Safe Computer Charting01:18

Guidelines and Strategies for Safe Computer Charting

2.7K
The guidelines and strategies provided by the American Nurses Association (ANA) and the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) offer essential principles for ensuring safe and secure computer charting systems in healthcare settings. Let's break down each recommendation:

Persuasion Strategies01:52

Persuasion Strategies

43.5K
Researchers have tested many persuasion strategies, including the foot-in-the door and the door-in-the-face techniques, in a variety of contexts. Ultimately, the principles are effective in selling products and changing people’s attitude, ideas, and behaviors (Cialdini & Goldstein, 2004).

Coping Strategies: Problem Focused01:27

Coping Strategies: Problem Focused

491
Coping strategies are methods people use to manage, tolerate, or reduce the effects of stressors. These strategies involve both behavioral and psychological actions to handle stressful situations. One common approach is problem-focused coping, which aims to change or eliminate the source of stress rather than merely addressing its consequences. This method involves taking direct action to resolve the issue causing stress.
For example, consider a student who struggles to understand their...

Design Example: Calculating Safe Diameter for Wind-Exposed Disc

357
Assessing safety in wind-exposed installations is crucial to preventing potential failures. This example explores the calculation and design adjustments needed to mount a circular disc on a building facade, where wind forces are a primary concern. A 4-meter diameter disc was initially designed as an aesthetic feature facing winds at a velocity of 25 meters per second, with an air density of 1.25 kilograms per cubic meter. Given these conditions, the drag force on the disc was determined using...

Strategies of Self-Presentation II: Self-Verification

187
Self-verification is a fundamental psychological drive wherein individuals seek affirmation of their self-concept from others, striving for consistency between their internal self-view and external perceptions. This drive operates even when the self-concept is negative, influencing interpersonal behavior and feedback preferences in complex and often counterintuitive ways. Unlike the self-enhancement motive, which seeks positive evaluations, self-verification prioritizes coherence and...

Coping Strategies: Emotion Focused01:20

Coping Strategies: Emotion Focused

506
Emotion-focused coping refers to a set of strategies aimed at managing the emotional impact of stressors, rather than directly addressing their causes. This approach involves altering one's emotional response to stressful situations to reduce their psychological effects. For example, individuals might talk with a friend or engage in activities like journaling to express their feelings. Such actions can help achieve emotional clarity or release, providing the psychological stability needed...

    Summary

Depressing the Ozurdex injector slowly reduces pellet impact force by 95%. This technique may lower the risk of retinal injury and vitreous hemorrhage during intravitreal injections.

    Area of Science:

    • Ophthalmology
    • Retinal Surgery
    • Drug Delivery Systems

    Background:

    • Ozurdex (dexamethasone intravitreal implant) is administered using a patented device.
    • A misconception exists regarding the correlation between applicator button depression speed and pellet injection speed.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the impact of applicator button depression speed on Ozurdex pellet injection velocity and force.
    • To determine if a slower injection technique can mitigate potential risks associated with Ozurdex administration.

    Main Methods:

    • Six dexamethasone intravitreal implants were injected into a water bath.
    • Injections were performed using either rapid compression or a 3-second compression technique.
    • High-speed photography captured injections to calculate pellet velocity and impact force.

    Main Results:

    • The mean impact velocity and force were significantly higher in the rapid injection group compared to the slow injection group.
    • A 3-second compression technique reduced the impact force of the implant pellet by approximately 95%.

    Conclusions:

    • A 3-second depression technique for the Ozurdex injector significantly reduces implant pellet impact force.
    • This modified injection method theoretically decreases the risk of retinal injury and vitreous hemorrhage during Ozurdex intravitreal injections.
