  • Forty-one documents from developed countries were included, primarily from nursing and medicine.
  • The cultural competence approach was most common (44%); 51% of publications were theoretical.
  • Empirical studies (39%) predominantly used mixed methods and focused on role-play games, assessing learning outcomes but not patient-oriented outcomes. No randomized controlled trials were identified.

Conclusions:

  • Educational games represent an engaging intervention for cross-cultural care training.
  • A significant research gap exists, precluding a systematic review.
  • Future research should prioritize randomized controlled trials and patient-centered outcomes, involving end-users in game development.
