A new algorithm model for Decision Support System (DSS) software was developed to aid dental diagnosis. This system helps clinicians evaluate various treatment options, providing survival and success rates for informed patient consent.
Area of Science:
- Dentistry
- Medical Informatics
- Decision Analysis
Background:
- Dental clinical problems require evaluating long-term therapy success rates.
- Current decision support software lacks flexibility for diverse therapeutic options.
Purpose of the Study:
- Develop a novel algorithm for a Decision Support System (DSS) software.
- Enhance diagnostic support in dentistry.
Main Methods:
- Beta testing of the computer software using clinical data.
- Evaluation of conservative/endodontic vs. extractive/prosthetic therapies.
- Assessment of scenarios with multiple viable treatment options.
Main Results:
- The DSS software accurately identified multiple therapeutic options in tested clinical situations.
- The software presented a range of treatment choices with survival and success rates.
- Output masks effectively displayed comparative data for multiple treatment possibilities.
Conclusions:
- The proposed software architecture is technically feasible for clinical application.
- The system supports evidence-based clinician choices.
- Facilitates informed patient consent through easily understandable data.

Health Information Technology and Healthcare Information System
Health Information Technology, commonly called HIT, integrates advanced information systems and technology in healthcare settings. Its primary functions include:
Nursing Clinical Information System
A Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS) is a specialized type of healthcare information system tailored to meet the unique needs of nursing practice. It incorporates the principles of nursing informatics to streamline information management and improve the quality of care delivery.
Critical attributes of NCIS include:
Teeth
In the bud stage, the tooth germ (an aggregation of cells) starts to form in the developing jawbone. During the cap stage, the tooth germ differentiates into enamel organ, dental papilla, and dental sac, which will later develop into the tooth's enamel, dentin...
