MDCT and ultrasound duplex scanning are effective for diagnosing atherosclerotic diseases of the femoral-popliteal-tibial segment and deep femoral artery. These radiological methods improve treatment outcomes for patients with peripheral artery disease.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the effectiveness of modern radiological diagnostic methods in patients with distal atherosclerotic diseases.
  • To compare the diagnostic accuracy and predictability of various imaging techniques for the femoral-popliteal-tibial segment and deep femoral artery.

Main Methods:

  • Analysis of 150 patients with distal atherosclerosis treated in a regional clinical hospital's vascular surgery department.
  • Comparison of diagnostic performance metrics (false positives, false negatives, predictability, accuracy) for ultrasound, duplex scanning, X-ray contrast angiography (RCAH), and multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT).

Main Results:

  • MDCT demonstrated the highest effectiveness (89.1% and 90%) for the femoral-popliteal-tibial segment and deep femoral artery, respectively.
  • Ultrasound duplex scanning also showed high effectiveness (88.7% and 82%).
  • MDCT exhibited superior predictability (98% and 99%) and accuracy (95.5% and 97.3%) for both arterial segments compared to other methods.

Conclusions:

  • MDCT and ultrasound duplex scanning are the most effective radiological methods for diagnosing atherosclerotic diseases of the femoral-popliteal-tibial segment and deep femoral artery.
  • These advanced imaging techniques contribute to improved treatment results for patients with peripheral artery disease.
