    Inferior meatal antrostomy effectively prevents sinusitis after zygomatic implant placement. This simple prophylactic technique reduces the risk of sinusitis in patients receiving zygomatic implants.

    Background:

    • Zygomatic implants are a viable option for maxillary reconstruction.
    • Sinusitis is a potential complication following zygomatic implant placement.
    • Prophylactic measures are essential to mitigate surgical risks.

    Observation:

    • A case series evaluated patients who underwent zygomatic implant placement with a prophylactic inferior meatal antrostomy.
    • The study included 48 patients with 184 implants placed between June 2011 and March 2019.
    • Patients were assessed at 12 months post-procedure using clinical and radiological criteria.

    Findings:

    • No cases of sinusitis were reported in the study cohort.
    • The overall complication rate included paresthesia (6.2%), orosinusal fistula (4.1%), skin infection (2.1%), and implant loss (1.6%).
    • Inferior meatal antrostomy demonstrated a 0% sinusitis rate.

    Implications:

    • Inferior meatal antrostomy is a simple and effective prophylactic technique to prevent sinusitis after zygomatic implant surgery.
    • This procedure should be considered in the routine management of patients receiving zygomatic implants.
    • The findings support the reliability of this method in reducing sinusitis risk in implant dentistry.
