Abstract:
The role of melatonin in the process of oncogenesis is reviewed. The problems connected with functional state of the epiphysis and other melatonin-producing cells in cancer, as well as the influence of melatonin on experimental tumours and melatonin level changes in blood and urine in patients with malignant tumours are discussed. A probable mechanism of melatonin level changes in cancer is considered taking into account its extra-pineal synthesis.
