Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the relationship between inflammation markers (IL-6, IL-8, CRP) and the occurrence of VTE in cancer patients.
  • To determine if elevated inflammatory markers are associated with VTE in patients with malignancy.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective enrollment of 50 cancer patients with VTE (DVT/PTE) and 50 healthy controls.
  • Diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) via ultrasonography and pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) via CT scan.
  • Measurement of Interleukin-6 (IL-6), Interleukin-8 (IL-8), and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels.

Main Results:

  • Patients with malignancy and VTE exhibited significantly higher levels of IL-6, IL-8, and CRP compared to controls (p < 0.05).
  • Elevated inflammatory markers were strongly associated with the presence of VTE in the studied cancer cohort.

Conclusions:

  • Inflammatory biomarkers play a significant role in the development of venous thromboembolism in cancer patients.
  • Markers of systemic inflammatory response are implicated in the pathogenesis of VTE among individuals with malignancy.
