Background:

The 2021 Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education established new standards for entry and advanced levels.
Advanced competencies are designed for doctorally prepared nursing professionals.

Approach:

A quality improvement initiative revised the Post Master's Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) curriculum.
Faculty reviewed the 2021 AACN Essentials and interviewed DNP Course Leads to evaluate existing course components.

Key Points:

Six new program outcomes (POs) and measurable student learning outcomes (SLOs) were developed.
Curriculum adjustments included course consolidations, retirements, and additions, alongside an elective.
The DNP project was reframed using a systems approach for quality improvement, incorporating diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), and patient outcomes.

Conclusions:

The revised Post Master's DNP program curriculum was approved, aligning with the 2021 AACN Essentials.
The program is set to launch in Summer 2023, reflecting institutional mission, vision, and values.
