This study presents a new conceptual framework for understanding metamotivation in medical education, guiding learners through four phases to manage motivational challenges and enhance self-regulation skills.
Area of Science:
- Medical Education Research
- Educational Psychology
- Metacognition Studies
Background:
- Existing models inadequately address metamotivation in medical education.
- A comprehensive framework is needed to guide learners and educators.
Purpose of the Study:
- To develop and present a conceptual framework for understanding metamotivation in medical education.
- To address the gap in existing models for motivation regulation in this field.
Main Methods:
- A conceptual framework was developed using Crawford's guidance.
- Data were collected from experience, literature, and theory.
- Expert review and feedback were incorporated into the framework's final design.
Main Results:
- A four-phase conceptual framework for metamotivation was established.
- The framework distinguishes between motivational challenges and problems.
- It outlines phases for promoting knowledge, managing challenges, resolving problems, and stabilizing the process.
Conclusions:
- The proposed framework offers guidance for future research and interventions in medical education.
- It aims to stimulate further exploration of metamotivation dimensions in this context.
