Nursing Evaluation

The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Summary

This study identifies five key factors influencing evaluation use: resources, stakeholder, evaluation, social/political, and evaluator characteristics. Understanding these enablers and constraints can improve how evaluations are used in practice.

Background:

Evaluation use is a critical concern for evaluators.
Current understanding of evaluation use, including its definition, drivers, and measurement, remains limited.

Purpose of the Study:

To identify enablers and constraints influencing evaluation use.
To provide a contemporary assessment of factors affecting evaluation use by synthesizing recent literature.
To inform evaluator practice and future research.

Main Methods:

A scoping review of literature published since 2009 was conducted.
The review identified and synthesized factors influencing evaluation use from 47 articles.

Main Results:

Five primary factors influencing evaluation use were identified: resources, stakeholder characteristics, evaluation characteristics, social and political environment, and evaluator characteristics.
The study maps factors influencing evaluation use, capturing its evolution over time.

Conclusions:

The findings provide a contemporary understanding of factors affecting evaluation use.
This research informs practical and theoretical implications for evaluators and guides future research directions.
