Nitrification inhibitors combined with aerated irrigation improve paddy soil nitrogen dynamics and microbial communities. This approach enhances soil health and nitrogen supply, optimizing bacterial diversity and structure for better rice cultivation.
Area of Science:
- Agricultural Science
- Soil Science
- Microbiology
Context:
- Paddy soils face nitrogen loss challenges, particularly under irrigation.
- Aerated irrigation and nitrification inhibitors are potential solutions to enhance nitrogen use efficiency.
Purpose:
- To investigate the effects of micro-nano bubble water aeration irrigation combined with nitrification inhibitors on nitrogen dynamics and soil microbial communities in paddy fields.
- To analyze the impact on soil chemical properties and bacterial community structure.
Summary:
- Micro-nano bubble aeration irrigation (MB) and MB with nitrification inhibitors (MBNI) increased soil dissolved oxygen, redox potential, pH, and ammonium-nitrogen (NH4+-N) compared to conventional flooding (CF).
- MBNI treatment increased soil pH and altered nitrogen forms (NH4+-N and NO3--N) dynamics post-fertilization.
- Both MB and MBNI treatments enhanced soil bacterial diversity and richness, increasing Proteobacteria and Nitrospirota abundance while decreasing Bacteroidota. MBNI specifically reduced bacterial diversity compared to MB.
Impact:
- Combined application of nitrification inhibitors and aerated irrigation optimizes soil nitrogen supply and inorganic nitrogen content.
- This integrated approach improves soil chemical properties and influences microbial community structure, enhancing overall soil health.
- Findings provide insights for sustainable paddy soil management and improved rice cultivation practices.
